Pastor Curt Crist www.welcometograce.com When you come across the word "gospel" in Scripture, understand that you're looking at the Greek word pronounced yoo-ang-ghel'-ee-on which simply means "good news." Glad tidings is another expression used in the Dictionary of the Greek for the word you-ang-ghel'-ee-on. So, understand, the term gospel simply means good news until the context of the Scripture identifies the good news being declared in the good news to be believed by men. Now, if we want to go back to time past to see what good news messages God gave men to believe...(and by which God could declare them to be righteous if they believed it)...we have only to go back to the book of Hebrews to know that God's good news messages...were not always the same message. Men were given different good news messages...as God's Word was progressively revealed. Hebrews contains what many have called the faith chapter...as it reveals God's good news messages for those who believed God..! .in time past. Hebrews11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it (by faith, that is) the elders (of Israel, who had faith and to whom this letter is addressed) obtained a good report."..........this is going back beyond the elders of Israel to the elders of the human race. Verse 3: "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Faith in time past ...
